Leadership in Public Safety Diving

Public Safety Diving (PSD) is not a hobby; it is a duty. It requires a mindset and a skillset vastly different from recreational diving. When you step up to become an ERDI Professional, you are accepting the responsibility of training police, fire, and search and rescue teams to operate safely in the most hazardous environments imaginable. At Dive Right In Scuba, we take this responsibility seriously. We offer a comprehensive range of ERDI (Emergency Response Diving International) professional-level courses designed to build the next generation of PSD instructors and supervisors.

From Responder to Instructor

Transitioning from a diver to an educator in the public safety realm is a significant leap. Our curriculum is designed to give you the pedagogical tools to teach critical skills effectively:

  • ERDI Instructor: This is the core credential. You will learn to teach divers how to handle evidence recovery, body retrieval, and zero-visibility operations while maintaining strict safety protocols.
  • ERDI Supervisor: On a mission, the most important person is often the one on shore running the operation. This course teaches you to manage a scene, oversee dive teams, and make the tough calls when conditions change.
  • Non-Diving Specialty Instructor: A dive team is nothing without its support. Expand your teaching portfolio to include Tender operations, Visual Inspection Procedures, and Swift Water rescue—vital skills for the personnel who keep the divers safe.

Real-World Experience in the Chicago Suburbs

You cannot teach public safety diving from a textbook. You need to know what it feels like to work in cold, black water. Our Instructor Trainers are experienced in the field and understand the specific liability and operational challenges departments face. We provide a supportive, rigorous environment where you can refine your rescue techniques and learn to standardize training for your department or others.

Step up to the line. Become a leader in underwater rescue and recovery with our ERDI Professional courses.
