About Impact Stubby Dive Light - by DRIS Dive Gear SKU: impactXstubby

The Impact Stubby Dive light is extremely versatile with the ability to switch light heads on the surface from spot to video depending on your diving needs, and diving to depths of 450 feet! With 1000 lumen brightness you’re sure to have the best view under the water.  With its center back attach point, you can even clip this off to a D-Ring or retractor to ensure you don't lose this bright light.  The Impact Stubby is powered by one rechargeable Li-ion battery that is protected by a triple o-ring design to ensure you don't flood it.  This gives the light a 2 hour burn time at max brightness and a run time of 4 hours of usable light.  With the built in overload circuitry, you can even use this on the surface, and the light will automatically dim to help prevent damage to the LED.

The Impact Stubby is great for the recreational diver or the experienced technical diver alike.  You’ll never need another light to guide you through the water once this light is part of your gear, especially when combined with our soft neoprene goodman glove for hands free light!

Impact Spot Light Head

The Impact Spot Light head is great for precise lighting.  Want to see what’s hidden away in the crevices of the quarry you’re in, or look underneath that reef to catch a glimpse of a nurse shark?  Equipping your Impact Stubby Light with the Impact Spot Light head is what you want!

Impact Video Light head

For the seasoned, or aspiring underwater photographer, the Impact Video Light Head is what you’re looking for! With a wide angle beam, this light head will flood the water with light so that you get the best shot available.  The Impact Video Light Head is also great for large area illumination whether you have a camera with you or not.

  1. Good light review by Adric on 8/18/2017
    Overall Rating

This is a very bright light with good runtime, which is also small enough to easily slip into a BC pocket when not in use. It's fairly stout and appears to be well made, so I'm expecting mine to last for a long time.

On the downside, the lanyard which it comes with does NOT include a clip (unlike the product picture). This is a relatively minor point (I'm probably still going to get another unit as a backup light), but should really be mentioned in the product description.

  2. Great primary light for several years now. review by Brian on 6/5/2016
    Overall Rating

My co-worker and I have used these lights for several years as our primary lights inside the wrecks at Bikini Atoll. We are diving to 55 meters in salt water and have hundreds of trouble-free dives with these lights. The simplicity and 1 light setting are an asset, as we don't need multi-function switches, and the beam is tight and cuts through the murk. Another advantage is that I can carry 3 lights and my backups are the same as my primary, so no loss of effectiveness if I have to switch. I like it so much I am ordering one for my video rig.

  3. Good spot light, recommended for primary or backup. review by Stan on 5/20/2016
    Overall Rating

I have been diving with the Stubby spot for a year now and it has an extremely bright, penetrating beam. I use this as a primary light for recreational diving and as a camera spot when I attach it to my camera rig. I can get 2 to 3 dives usage from one charge and picked up an extra battery; these are readily available.

There was no inexpensive and ready option to attach the light to a ball connector for my rig, so I used a metal plumbing pipe hanger and an old ball connector. Unfortunately the girth of the light does not fit standard plastic plumbing straps. Bending the metal works, but I ding the light a star for lack of attachment. I see there is now a loc-line attachment, but that does not help me and others.

The deepest I took it was 150' with no problem. You can turn the light on and off underwater with a careful half twist and that is much more reliable than magnetic switches. Make sure you check the o-rings, and clean the screw threads because silt can penetrate the machined threads and spread around when the battery is replaced.

Good bright light for the money. Will get one with a video head, as well. Recommended.

  4. Very bright review by Mark on 8/17/2015
    Overall Rating

This light id very bright and lights up an area well. Although I like to take some video and pictures I am not a photographer, therefore I'm not willing to invest a ton of money in video cameras and lights. This light is inexpensive compared to many video lights and fits in with what I am interested in, amateur pics and video on diving vacations. It can also serve as a good backup light

  5. Follow-up of previous review review by James on 6/9/2015
    Overall Rating

This is an update of a previous review. I give the stubby 5 stars because it is holding up well and I have had the light to 262 feet in freshwater and no leaks and the batteries still work (In my experience sometimes the Chinese batteries die fast). I plan on taking the light deeper in saltwater in a few weeks. Apparently someone else liked my light as well as I had one stolen (I bought two of these). If they have a sale on the stubby I will buy more.

  6. Great dive light for the price review by PaulLcn on 5/27/2015
    Overall Rating

I bought this light with the video head for my trip to the Florida Keys and the Great Barrier Reef. I was not disappointed by the quality of the light and the brightness. I was not shipped a lanyard, so I made my own. I had no flooding and the light clamped well on my GoPro dive tray extension arm. The battery was damaged on the flight back, but I found you can purchase the batteries online anywhere. I highly recommend this dive light if you are looking for an inexpensive light source.

  7. Good Light for Spearfishing review by Sam on 5/14/2015
    Overall Rating

I got this light for looking under ledges and in holes while spearfishing. It works very good for this and lasts a good amount of time. I put the attached strap around my wrist and tighten it down. So far the light has held up all last summer.

  8. Great for tropical day diving review by B on 3/9/2015
    Overall Rating

My wife is into finding things hiding under ledges and in cracks. I bought her this light for a trip to Bonaire and she loved it! It's small enough that she just tucks it inside her BC until we descend. She likes to keep her distance and this light is bright enough during the day to illuminate dark places from several feet away. It's so bright that some species tend to flee, spotted drum and lionfish for example.

  9. Fantastic dive light review by Karissa on 2/17/2015
    Overall Rating

My husband and I just bought this light with the spot light head before a dive trip as our primary lights. The lights are very bright with a good spot light and perfect for night diving. We recommend them for anyone looking for a reasonably priced primary dive light and are a great option if you also want to use them for video. Not a heavy light and easy to use with the hand mount. We intend to buy the video heads as well.

  10. Great little light review by Karen on 1/2/2015
    Overall Rating

Small enough to fit in your drysuit or BC pocket and light enough to attach to a retractor. Both the video and light heads are 1000 lumens. They come with double ring seals and the rechargeable batteries have lasted over 2 hours on a single charge. We would recommend this light to anyone looking to buy a good light on a budget.

  11. Great Light for a Great Price review by Karen on 1/2/2015
    Overall Rating

This light is small enough to keep in your BC or Drysuit pocket and yet still powerful. We bought 1 dive light head and 1 video head and they both work wonderfully. We plan to get another set to use as our backup lights. For the price, you just cant beat it.

  12. So Far so Good, Bright Light review by James on 11/5/2014
    Overall Rating

I have had many different LED lights but they were not all underwater. I have not yet had this on a deep dive but it has been submersed a few feet. The Impact Stubby with the video light head seems to be a robust light. It does have 3 skinny O-rings which should seal well if the tube machining tolerances are good. It is very bright with no hot spots (video head) and I can believe it is 1,000 lumens but have no way to measure the output. It seems every bit as bright as another brand I recently purchased rated as 1,600 lumens. It turns on by screwing down the head tightly. Instructions say to turn on the light before the dive??? I don't like that feature, will it leak if you turn it on or off underwater?? It shouldn't if the O rings are good and the machining tolerances are good. The lanyard for the item I received is different than in the picture as there is not a clip and mine has a rubber tube over part of the line, but that is OK. The only instructions are printed on a small clear piece of plastic in typical translated Chinese. The head unscrews from the body about midway, as there are no instructions for putting in the battery. The instructions are: 1) Please turn on light before dive, make sure the switch must screw very tightly. 2) Please clean the flashlight by fresh water after each diving. 3) Please lubricate the switch threads and O-rings after each diving. 4) Do not drop the flashlights on sand, in case the sand go into the switch and threads. 5) Please take out the batteries if you do not use the flashlight for a long time.

It only has one mode - bright, which is a plus in my opinion. I don't need a light with five modes and a "blinky blinky" or "flashy flashy".
At some time I will be able to test it in deep water +300 ft so then I will know just how good the light is built.

  13. Great, bright light review by Shang on 11/4/2014
    Overall Rating

Haven't used it much, but for the 3 dives that I've used it, it's great. Nice and bright to light up the bottom while searching for dinner. Build quality is also good and sturdy. I like the rechargeable battery since I'll be able to recharge before my dives and know I'm starting with fully charged batteries.

  14. Great lights review by Quinn on 8/13/2014
    Overall Rating

I ordered a couple of these lights in both video and spot. I must say I'm impressed. The units are compact but very powerful, and the rechargeable battery is a very nice feature.

The units were on backorder when I ordered and it took some time for them to get in, but DRIS did a very good job of communication.

  15. Great light review by Hal on 4/28/2014
    Overall Rating

I needed a light I can use for 4 dives between charges. Light Canon LED fits the bill, but the o-ring seal is not robust and have had 3 floods in 10 years. Sola will not flood, but not enough battery life, and cannot swap out batteries. The Stubby Impact dive light will last hours on one battery, then the battery can be easily swapped with another inexpensive rechargeable. It is very solidly built, and reportedly has 3 o-rings, which should minimize risk of flooding. It is very bright with the spot head, more than enough for our dark, murky PNW waters. Time will tell, but my initial impression is very favorable.

  16. Amazing, Amazing oh did I mention Amazing review by Bobby on 4/10/2014

Super bright light with amazing construction. Very simple and reliable design. Can't wait to use this with my go pro setup.

  17. Great primary review by Athos on 3/23/2014
    Overall Rating

I did my first 2 dives with the Impact Spot Stubby light this past weekend. I'm impressed with the build quality. I was comparing it with a friend's brand new DRIS Shorty and they are very similar lights. This one is a bit longer and thinner. Light output was very similar. The main feature that I wanted was the ability to do two dives in a row without changing batteries. That's about two hours of battery life. It does the trick.

I tested it in the bathtub comparing against a constant light source for three hours. It gets a bit dimmer over time, but it was still nice and bright at the end of 2 hours. Still totally useable after 3 hours. Using it on two ocean dives this past weekend, it did the trick. We'll have to wait and see how it lasts, but given the similarities to the well loved DRIS shorty, I have confidence in it.

I'm using it as a primary light so the rechargeable is exactly what I want. If I wanted a backup light, I would either go with the stretch impact body or the DRIS shorty with AA Alkalines. (I chose this over the DRIS shorty with AA Rechargeables as a primary, and I think I made the right choice)
