Submited By: Jim P. on 02/13/2011 I've got a pair of these for my doubles. They are robust, easy-breathing regs that can take a beating and go on working!
The second stage is adjustable, making it easy to dial in the perfect settings. Pre/post dive venturi is clearly marked and easy to use. The exhaust tee is quite wide, meaning bubbles don't block your vision. However, it can feel a little bit ungainly if switching from a smaller second, especially with a bungeed backup (I sometimes knock the exhaust tee of my primary on the case of the backup--probably a personal issue, though.) That being said, I appreciate the wider exhaust, especially when taking pictures.
The first is a basic, no-frills, sealed diaphragm first. It breathes great, and I don't have to worry about muck getting in. That's all I ask for out of a first stage. For doubles, the hose routing could be a little bit cleaner (one LP hose goes straight down, and the other one goes out to the front a bit) if you are turning the first sideways, but that's not a huge issue. I have never noticed this while using them, just while looking at them.
For a made-in-America easy breathing reg, you can't go wrong with the DS-V. If you want the same thing but with a turret, go for the 50D.
