I upgraded from my 35w to this 50w thanks to DRI. Had a chance to use the 50w for doing video in Chuuk and Palau this month. The 50w is NUTS - very bright, excellent for video with my rig (Canon P&S doing 720p). LM makes an optional reflector assembly which is great, no hot spots, real nice even light that works very well even with my UWL-100 wide angle lens. As for the focusable aspect, it has a intense hot spot, about as well focused as the 35w - that is to say, not as focused as the 21w but with a lot more scatter to the side. Based on some diving in MX with a 21w and a 35w, they had similar penetration but the 35w really had nice side scatter which is great for the caves and wrecks. I'm looking forward to cave diving with the 50w, it should really be perfect for getting a nice view while offering killer signalling. When you pull this light out, people comment ;) The can is big but not uncomfortably so - same with the light head. The only downside to this light was that in Palau it really attracted the little larva and critters on night dives - however it is amusing to point it at someone and watch them get covered with larva though (only did this on accident while filming my girlfriend of course). Anyways to make a long review short, this light was worth every penny, it's insanely bright, well made, the sealed lid / banana plug charging system is hugely convenient and I can't wait to use it again.
