This is an interesting light as it is kind of a specialty light. Its grip is extremely easy to hold and its flat shape makes it easy to stow in the harness webbing with bike tubing, or a BC pocket. The butterfly switch allows for one handed operation which is nice and more water resistant then twist type.
The beam of the light itself is very tight and bright which makes it excellent for spotting things in a hole, under a ledge or seeing something suspended in the water at a greater distance. The tight beam also helps with scatter and glare in less than perfect water. I would consider this light much more of a spot than flood. The beam is indeed bright, but it is narrow which leads some people to think it is not bright since it is not throwing a large cone of light.
To me this light is kind of a dual/special purpose light. I use it in the less than perfect waters of local lakes as my primary for both day and night dives. The tight beam tends not to scatter and cause glare. This can be really handy with groups of divers or students because you don’t have all those blinding flood lights in the water and it is easier to point out things to divers or point direction. In clear ocean waters I carry it during the day to be able to peer into dark narrow areas of wrecks or a reef hole or under a ledge. For a night dive in the ocean it works well as a backup light because of its relatively compact size and brightness.
Another nice thing about this light is you can use it out of the water all you want without fear of burning out the bulb like some lights. These days there are brighter lights out and more advanced LED lights, but this light is a nice for what it does and for a first light it would not be a bad choice since you can always relegate it to a backup/specialty light later.
I have to give it 5 stars because it does what it says very well. It has a “bright narrow beam” that “fits neatly in BC pocket” and it has never failed me.

I own and use this light as my backup however I have had to use it as a primary on a dive. The light itself was not very bright and I would have preferred to have an LED light.

One note about the SL lights is the switch on the front. This is low profile and does not need to be twisted which eliminates the light turning on at depths or possibility of the cap coming off. The switch vs twist is more of a preference between divers.

I would go with an LED version of a UK light instead, though this light will be a reliable recreational backup light.
