Submited By: Scott M. on 05/10/2012 I bought a pair of these for my OW class in the PAC NW after reading around online, and knowing that most of our shores have rocky beaches...and after stepping on an urchin while snorkeling in Malaysia (pre scuba cert), I'll NEVER go in the water without hard soles again!
They worked marvelously, kept my feet warm and safe from misc. sharp rocks and/or trash. To my surprise, these are the same boots that my LDS rents for their classes, and they love them too. I got size 3XL for the size 13 feet, and they fit fairly well. A little slippery inside after the dive, but that's to be expected and it's just noticeable, not annoying or dangerous. One of our dive sites has a 100yd walk up a paved road to the parking lot, and my dive buddy is always jealous of my arch support while carrying tanks and weights.
There's a little Velcro strap at the top that keeps the zipper from creeping down, and does an admirable job of it. However, the mating Velcro on the boot body is only about 1" long, and the strap hangs off it so far that I was concerned about catching it on something. I sewed on a little supplemental piece of Velcro, and it's been fine, but since the wetsuit legs will go over the top of the strap (which I didn't know at the time), it probably wouldn't have been an issue. However, if using this with a shorty or other short-leg exposure protection it might be.
Also, I've read that they're hard to fit into the foot pocket of most fins from the thicker sole, but I have 2 different XXL Scuba Pro fins and both fit perfectly.
Like most of my gear to date, I bought them before I found DRIS, but so far I'm loving the communications with the staff, and as soon as my wife cools off from my dry suit purchase I have a long wish list I'll be working on with them.
