Submited By: Shawn B. on 08/11/2010 Verified Buyer I ordered this package back in April. It came in pieces and unassembled. Because it was already 02 clean from the factory, I took it to my LDS to be assembled and slapped a NITROX sticker on it ready for partial pressure blending.
It feels on my back about the same as my AL80's with 10 lb v-weight but them being shorter it can be a little more difficult to get in/out of (I'm 6'2") but nothing to complain about.
This package came with the default XS Scuba isolation manifold that uses colors beneath the knobs to indicate red/on and green/on. I was afraid my DIR buddies would give me crap about it but I find a number of advantages:
1) the knobs are larger than usual so they are easy to grab and does not require much manipulation to open/close
2) my buddies/instructors can see immediately if I left a valve open or closed but I would always want them to verify it if need be, just in-case a color-thingy had a failure without us knowing
3) the LDS can immediately know whether the isolation manifold is open/closed before blending/filling
The manifold comes with a very smooth and sleek looking chrome finish that I prefer aesthetically over the rough finish of the Halcyon manifold I have on my double 80's. I believe the manifold to be of good construction and durability but have noticed that if I lift the set by the knobs they appear to weaken such that I often wonder if they'll break off or malfunction. It was easily corrected by changing my handling practice and showing respect. I do not believe them to be of weak quality but all I'm saying is be respectful of any potential fail points not to provoke them.
The tanks themselves trim out very well in the water and I'm not disappointed. It did take me some finagling to get the bands in the correct location relative to how I have my harness adjusted (such that I can use it properly with my 80's, 100's, and singles without adjustments).
I have never had a bad experience with Mike. Regarding this transaction there were some caveats and details that revolve around store credit, shipping (I live near XS Scuba so do not need shipping) and taxation issues. Everything was handled marvelously and exceeding any expectations I every have about any scuba operation.
If you're in the market you cannot go wrong with this package (unless you need more air than twin 100's can provide).
