Submited By: Brian R. on 09/26/2010 Verified Buyer I've used these in zero-vis silt-out conditions to cut stainless leaders & fish nets and they work extremely well. You still have to be certain of what you are cutting and I carry knives as well but shears are much easier for heavy duty line cutting.
They will spot-rust (within hours of salt water exposure) pretty quickly compared to my 304 SS knives so I recommend a rinse and soak ASAP. That said, it's not really a big deal and you can just wire brush/cover them in an appropriate lube after.
The case works fairly well and with little practice you can manage to get the shears back in fairly easily. There are some more expensive and slightly more durable shears out there such as the titanium coated ones but they're typically 2-3x the cost and won't necessarily last that much longer with reasonable care. Even if these wear out you can always pick up another pair cheap and reuse the case.
