I bought this retractor to use with my compass/slate combo, but it doesn't have quite enough strength for it. It works fine in the water, but on land my compass dangles :-)

This would only work for something very lightweight, like a map or pencil.

The quick release buckle is so small that it is almost impossible to operate.
